The Unsound E103
The Unsound is probably one of the most important episodes in the show mostly because of the beginning of Keith Dabic story and the first hard mention of Cora Lee. But Regardless of its importance its also an excellent episode Its spooky and unsettling. and is one of the first times that the content made people anxious. Mostly, because of the Unsound. According to the lore, The unsound was found in the 1960's by an Antarctic crew. A Mysterious sound that nobody's knows the origin too. Some say that its a portal to release the Devil from hell. They also say once you hear it you have one year to live. Fun Huh! =)
One of the Great parts of The Black Tapes is that a lot of there episodes take on a monster of the week feel to them, Simultaneously having a stand alone story while still connecting the series though fifty thousand well veiled subplots.
And to be fair this episode is great. Alex and Strand are on their way to Seattle to reopen the Unsound a mysterious sound that apparently God can't hear and the suicide of a young musician in a band that uses Occult Imagery. One of the things that I Love about The Black Tapes is that they talk what can be considered familiar to the Average audience(I.E a Satanic Rock Band) and turns it on its head Like with a sound bite hellsmouth. all the little details make it interesting the story about how Keith Dabic finds out about the unsound, The Antarctic Expedition. Even the two interview between the Dr. Pullman and the priest just really brought the story together.
Closing Thoughts
- The bit about how the Dr. Pullman hates kale is hilarious
- I also really Enjoyed the Exchange between Alex and Strand After the big reveal. First it was nice for Alex to be able to explain something to strand for a change and it was a great way of characterizing Strand while also dropping some knowledge bombs about P2P File Sharing that neither Strand nor part of the audience might not have known about. PNWS really knows how to make their conversations count.
