The Devil Door E106

"This week we'll be digging into two of my least favorite aspects of paranormal investigation: demons, and psychiatrics hospitals." - Alex Regan

One of the things that I like about the black tapes is that it is an unabashed love for the paranormal and strange and its this episode that they really start to delve into it. The story takes a left turn on the formala when Dr. Strand makes a house call to the Three Rivers State Hospital. The plot essentially revolves around a locked room mystery. Late one night Fred Barnes was laying in his bed when he was attacked by Simon Reese. Except the door was locked and Simon Reese was in his room the whole time. Except Reese admitted to the attack. This little scenario leads to such fun things as Sacred Geometry circles to call the demons inside for supper, interviews with a seemingly omnipresent murderer and creepy messages and drawings.  but in all seriousness its a really interesting episode the black tapes manages to take things that have been done to death,(i.e Talking to the Crazy and Scary Murderer) and writing them into great story lines.

Another interesting part of the episode was when they brought in a guest star to interview. Its a nice touch to have a little bit of subplot to break up all the strand drama. Being the first season its wonderful to have the formula and main arc be relaxed enough that they can occasionally experiment with the story.
