Renewal, Resolutions, and Rebirth: My January Wrapup

Hey Whores!

New Year, New Queer Amirite.

This year I want to spend more time completing things, finishing projects, watching movies on my watchlists. So on and so forth and thats easier said then done.

So let me think about what I have started so far. The main issue obviously is going through the absolutely massive amount of films and movies on my collected streaming watchlists. Netflix has about a 178. Tubi around 70 and Youtube I was very clever and kept my watch later at exactly 100 Videos.

The only one I've managed to actually wittle down is my youtube watch later playlist. Its interesting looking back at the videos that I wanted to save. Its a lot of Markiplier interestingly enough but also video essays, Listicles, just layers and layers of videos formats that I no longer am interesting in consuming. I think as I've gotten older I've realized how much the term 'content'. This idea of marketable easy consumable art permeates our lives. And theres nothing wrong with the fun and popcorny of youtube videos but I no longer have the same emotional need for them. The meta has changed and so has my taste. Its a digging through boxes of a younger version of you.

I've also began to listen to more music and read again and that has been a very enjoyable enterprise. I've been trying to blog about the albums I've been consuming which you can read on my tumblr. I doubt its very good but I see it as a learning exercise as well as a way of chronicalling my music listening journey.

In terms of actually media watches lets see....

First up would be Love, Death, and Robots. Its pretty easy to fit the anthology short film series into my scredule and so far its been alright. I think the premise tends to be a big issue for the earlier season which takes Love to mostly mean flaccid dick or needless sex scene. Theres some standout episodes that tend to make the whole enterprise meaningful but understand it tends to be a very mixed bag. The third season seems to be a bit stronger and it does seem that the producers are trying to curate the stories and animations a bit more tighter. Especially since a lot of the first season was photorealistic sex scenes. Given one of those porno ads y'know.

I also have been watching the Innocent Files a Docu-series that follows some big cases taken on by The Innocent Project. Its very well done and is pretty refreshing about how shitty the judical system is.

other then that the main project I've been working on in January has been a movie challenge I'm calling Spoof-Tober. Its mostly an excuse to watch all the horror movies on my Netflix Watchlist. Which I still have some films left over but hey babes that's life. This is a marathon not a sprint.

So heres for letting go of sunk cost fallacy, finding our own happiness and hopefully getting out of the house more.

Get Out (2017) - Jordan Peele

Referenced: Candyman

I won't get to deep into the sauce here but yeah this movie is great. its fucked up and funny and Jordan Peele manages to take his comedy background and use it in a really fantastic way. This is a must watch obviously.

Anyway whores. I'm ready to get out of here so lets go have fun this year. February for me is going to be me dealing with my taxes, working on some crafting and other creative projects and trying to decompress from all the screen time.
